The brief synopsis of the activities of His Hands for Africa for 2009 looks like this -

Total number of team trips to Africa - 1

Total number of team members on that trip - 3

Total number of children "processed" on that trip - 207

Total number of children sponsored for the 2008-2009 school year - 92

Total number of sponsors - 46

On that team trip to Africa we were able to deliver over 100 blankets donated by people in our area of Maine. These blankets were given to women and children in refugee camps in Uganda and the DR Congo. What a blessing it was for us to be able to bring these to them and to see them being put to good use.

On that same trip we learned about a program being run by Pastor Bamoleke's wife, Siriaka, which provides a pig for an African woman in crisis. We were able to share this information with our sponsors who have responded to this opportunity to help in a tremendous way - enabling us to be able to send over $2,000 to Africa to help provide pigs for this program.

We were also able to send Siriaka over $500 from the sale of the African Paper Bead jewelry she had sent us. We still have more jewelry for sale if anyone is interested.

We are so thankful to God for allowing us to be His servants and for His incredible blessing on this ministry. None of these things would have been possible without His guidance and direction and without Him bringing in the increase. "Not to us, O Lord, not to us but to your name be the glory because of Your love and faithfulness." Another child has just been chosen for sponsorship! Mugisha Ruvamwabo Hazika in Rwankuba, DR Congo has just been chosen. That brings our total number of children chosen up to 9 children chosen, just 16 more to find sponsors for in order to meet our goal. This challenge is scheduled to end just one week from today - June 30th. We can still reach this goal but we really need your help. Please talk to everyone you can - let them know these children need our help!
Here are some statistics I read recently - 30,000 children in Sub-Sahara Africa die every DAY due to hunger and/or malnutrition. 15 million children have been orphaned due to AIDS. And it is estimated that between 2005 and 2010, 25 million AIDS orphans will die because they have no one left to care for them. Those numbers are staggering to say the least. So please, help us find sponsors for these children.
So....who will you talk to or where will you post a message or a link about sponsoring a child tomorrow?
Thank you so much!

Jamie

Day 12

Good news! I am going to set a goal to get TWENTY-FIVE (25) kids sponsored in the next 25 days. If I've done my math right (which is always a good question!), that would put us up to June 30th. It would be WONDERFUL to have 25 kids taken care of before then. The children in the Congo will be starting a new school year in September and what a wonderful blessing it would be to them to start out a new school year with a new sponsor! So what do you think? Do you think we can do it? It will take a lot of effort. Everyone will need to get out there and talk to their friends, neighbors and family members. I've got brochures coming from the printer any day and I'll be happy to mail them out to anyone who wants to use them!
So......let's do it! 25 kids sponsored by June 30th! Ready.....set.....GO!!!
Jamie :-)

Other ways to help

There are many ways you can help the children of Uganda, Rwanda and the DR Congo. Child sponsorship is one way but there are also other ways.

A donation of just $9 will purchase an insecticide-treated malaria net for a child living in one of these countries. Every 30 seconds a child dies from malaria but a donation of just $9 could change that! What an amazing opportunity to help save a life!

A donation of just $35 will purchase a pig for a woman in crisis. Ownership of a pig can help a woman provide for her family's needs or pay her children's school fees. At maturity the pig can produce 3 to 4 litters per year and can have as many as 10 piglets in a litter. Selling those piglets can provide the necessary income for the family to sustain itself. When a woman receives a pig through this program, she is required to give away 3 piglets from the first litter produced by that pig. One piglet is given back to the project to be given to another woman in need. The other two piglets are to be given to other women in that particular community who are in similar circumstances. After that, the pig belongs to the woman without any further commitment.

If you are interested in sponsoring a child, purchasing a malaria net or purchasing a pig for a woman in crisis, please let us know.
